Kevin Sebesky, of Doylestown, has suffered from spine issues for seven years and is in need of a power wheelchair after facing four different infections and undergoing a total of 17 surgeries, according to a GoFundMe launched for his medical expenses.
Sebesky was recently released after spending several months at Jefferson Hospital and Magee Rehab Center, according to the fundraiser, launched by his wife, Jane, who says that he has been diagnosed with T6 paraplegia.
“We are the Sebesky family, and we are asking for donations for my husband, Kevin,” reads the fundraiser. “He is now paralyzed from the waist down.”
While the family has modified their home for Sebesky’s needs, they were faced with another obstacle after learning that his wheelchair must be returned.
“After making multiple changes to our home to accommodate him, we have just learned that we must return the loaner power wheelchair, and the permanent chair will now be an out-of-pocket expense to our family,” the campaign says.
“That, in combination with piling medical bills, is why we are humbly asking for help.”
More than $20,800 had been raised for Sebesky as of Thursday, putting the family more than $5,000 ahead of the campaign’s original goal of $15,000 in just two days.
“We appreciate any help you can offer at this time to support our family,” the campaign says.
